Services

RESTAURANT

The Restaurant is located in the large house towards the bottom of the site. Set in lush gardens it is the perfect location for enjoying our home cooked meals while you take in the stunning views of the mountain sweeping gently down to the coast.

TRANSPORTATION

When planning your visit to Bali Mountain Retreat, we strongly recommend using our pick up service as Balinese drivers will automatically go to their father Temple Batukaru. This detour adds 1 1/2 hours to the trip as we are not in this area. The price then usually rises. Be aware, taxis will not come up the mountain on these roads.

Chilled out We stayed for four days in August, we where the only guests which has a bonus , all to ourselves. The rooms are good and comfortable, the view from the tower is stunning at sunrise. The food was good ,limited due to availability and location but fresh, the staff are happy and friendly. Massage is available ( Lucy) gave us a welcome mid strength, which was perfect. Also we walk with a guide to the temple and due to the lack of people had a solo ceremony which was intimate. Yoga is available when they are busy. Enjoy our stay , reasonable price also . Strange it was actually cold some days up in the mountains be prepared.no mossies at all

Romantic, quiet getaway with many options Bali Mountain Retreat is hidden away on Mount Batu Kari, one of Bali's holy mountains and major temples. The resort is fully staffed in a beautiful location with a wide selection of room types. They have a full restaurant with a beautiful view. The grounds are lush and well maintained. The staff is helpful and can arrange most anything you may be interested in, from yoga and massage to local sightseeing and trekking. They can even host groups looking for a private retreat.

Tranquillity, integrity, simplicity, hospitality This beautiful authentic retreat nestled on the slopes of Mount Batukaru, Bali's second highest mountain, combines local hospitality with traditional style and good home cooking. The views are a million dollar and the tranquillity is a priceless experience well worth the pilgrimage you make to arrive here. Extra activities include spa options, treks to local temples and lessons in making offerings as well as cooking classes. Working to maintain a low eco footprint this is a space for those who care about the planet and who want to experience a deep harmony with Mother Earth. The traditional studio lends it self to groups for yoga, sacred dance, and other arts.

A peaceful escape in the mountains I stayed at Bali Mountain Retreat for four nights. It was a great place to stay as a solo traveller. The staff were so lovely and helpful, the food in the restaurant was delicious and they were great at catering for dietary requirements, including having lots of vegetarian options. I did two of the tours offered, including a rice field trek and a temple walk. Both were incredible experiences. I was lucky to meet some other guests during my stay who I spent some time with. One of my favourite things was being able to start the morning watching the sunrise over the mountains and doing some yoga in the Yoga Shala (which I often had to myself). Staying up in the mountains in such a unique experience and gives you a real feeling of Balinese life. I could have stayed much longer!

Pleasant respite from the pollution and traffic of Kuta Located in the foot hills of Bali’s second highest mountain “BatuKaru” (height around 2,200m), Bali Mountain Retreat offers a pleasant respite from the pollution and traffic of Kuta. The resort altitude at approximately 700m means it enjoys a sublime cooler climate than Bali’s coastal towns with day temperatures in the mid-high twenties and night time temperatures around 15-20 degrees celsius. The resort is off older style with an eclectic arrangement of traditional bungalows within the compound; bungalow designs even include some Joglo structures all the way from Java. As we turned up unannounced and the retreat was not busy we had the choice of rooms and choose a superior room located in a central two story “Teak House” complex which also houses the Yogo Shala on the top floor. The room was comfortable and featured a huge kingsize bed surround by large mosquito net. There was a spare day bed and small ensuite which was rustic but functional. Being in rural Bali you will enjoy sharing the area with a range of birds, lizards, geckos and insects, none of which is anything to worry about. But if you are use to sterile five star high rise accommodation in the smog, this place is not for you. We took all our meals at the resort (there are several other options nearby but relatively limited) and the food was exceedingly good. There is a range of Balinese specialities on the menu plus some regular Indonesian favourites but I strongly recommend the local specialties. We were lucky one of the owners Anita was present and we enjoyed dining with her. As an anthropologist, her insights into Balinese life were fascinating. We took a trek with manager Putu who is also a local farmer. As we past through the many gardens in the area his commentary proved very insightful into local traditional life. All the locals we passed with extremely polite and friendly. We were also impressed how clean the local area was with very little rubbish to detract from the lush rainforest views. I understand a number of guests come for yoga retreats and certainly the yoga room had impressive views of the local area and even as far as Gunung Agung when the skies where clear. Very happy to commend this retreat. 5 stars Thumbs up below if you appreciated this review.

Bali Shangrila More than adequate room in beautiful surroundings. Our stay at the BMR was a much needed calming and relaxing experience that was not long enough. The welcoming staff were friendly and patient with us during various activities especially our attemps at offering making! Oh how easy that was made to look and how difficult for us to do. The walk to Pura Munaksari was beautiful and informative followed by a very spiritual ceremony at the temple. Thank you Putu. We both had wonderful pampering from Lucy who helped me subide into relaxation with her ministrations. The food was fantastic as stated in every review. Putri was smiling informative and helpful. Even helped finding a lost watch after hours. Thank you to the whole team. Our stay was so short and we will certainly be back. Blessings to you all Judy and Lesley

Excellent location for our student study trip as well Tucked away under the silently watchful eye of the Batukaru mountain lies this deeply peaceful Bali Mountain Retreat. The retreat which is often used for yoga and trekking activities, turned out to be an excellent location for our student study trip as well. Set in the maintains away from the tourist spots, amongst the local village and staffed by local villagers, It served to be a true local experience. Activities such as rice field and plantation treks, local community volunteering opportunities, visiting local temples and banana leaf picnics are a few of the many things one could indulge in by visiting this place. Special mention to the staff who went out of their way to accommodate our needs. It was a real learning experience for us, an international group of university students from Singapore, India, Indonesia, Germany, Serbia and Australia.
